“The single greatest thing you can do to change your life today would be to start being grateful for what you have right now.” ~Oprah
In our busy lives of trying to do more, achieve more, have more, be more—and more, and more—we often take what really matters for granted. Sometimes we have to wonder what all of this more is for. Are we going to be any happier when we get it?
In all of our trying to be “happy when” we lose sight of just being happy now with what is right in front of us. And that often includes the people in our lives.
Taking our relationships and our health for granted has become an all-too-common by-product of our relentlessly busy lives.
I have put together a list of some gentle (and maybe not so gentle) nudges on taking things for granted. Let’s face it, sometimes we just need to be reminded before it’s too late.
“Learn to appreciate what you have before time forces you to appreciate what you had.”
“Do not take the people you love for granted. The time will come when they will leave you because they are tired of being ignored.”
“The things you take for granted, someone else is praying for.”
“Even the strongest feelings expire when ignored and taken for granted.”
“Every time you take them for granted, you’re teaching them to live without you.”
“If you find someone willing to go through hell just to keep your relationship alive, then NEVER ever take their love for granted.”
“Your health is your wealth.”
“To Men: Never take a good woman for granted because one day another guy will come along and appreciate what you didn’t.”
(Ladies, this works both ways.)
“I’ve learned that it is not what I have in my life but who I have in my life that counts.”
“It’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice.”
“The best things in life are the people you love, the places you’ve seen and the memories you’ve made.”
“People say… ‘You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.’ Truth is, you know what you had, and you just never thought you’d lose it.”
In my lifetime, I have lost health, wealth, family, friends, and love. I no longer take these things for granted and do what I can to make them a priority in my life.
However, we all need to be reminded once in a while.
What are you taking for granted in your life?
Wishing you a healthy and happy week.
